Stuff You’ll Need

Last updated: 13 Jan 2013 (suppliers for new remedies added)

Some of my demodicosis friends have reported difficulty in locally sourcing some of the items required for the treatments compiled here. So I’ve gathered a few links to web sources:

Colman’s Double Superfine Mustard Powder

US/North America:

If you can’t get Colman’s mustard powder locally, Toni suggests two alternative brands - McCormicks or Kroger. In Canada and Australia, the freely available Kean’s Mustard Powder is reputed to be very similar to Colman’s. Please note that mustard powder is also known as “Dry Mustard” in the US.

You can buy tins of Colman’s from Amazon in various sizes:

Click here. Alternative sources are here.

UK friends will have no problem finding Colman’s in their local supermarket.

European friends may have to get it from Amazon or other suppliers:

Tip: eggcups are ideal for mixing the mustard powder with cold water.

Borax Powder

US/North America and UK/Europe:

A friend of this website has alerted me to an excellent source of borax in the US - SoapGoods. You can also use 20 Mule Team Borax from your local supermarket, or you can import the slightly purer pharmacy-grade from Amazon in the UK or directly from their Irish supplier, Mistral (Mistral is a bit less expensive):

From SoapGoods (US)
From Amazon UK
Direct from Mistral (ireland)

If you trust eBay suppliers, you will also find it for sale here.

Chemical names for the correct borax to use are: sodium borate; disodium salt; sodium tetraborate; sodium borate decahydrate; sodium tetraborate decahydrate; disodium tetraborate decahydrate.

These are all the same thing, just different names. So please check the descriptions/ingredients carefully before you buy.

Measuring Spoons

US/North America:

You need these for accurate amounts of both mustard powder and borax. Women following the internal borax treatment need a way to measure 1/8 of a teaspoon. If you can’t get such a spoon set locally, the following all have a 1/8 teaspoon measure:

Amazon Set 1
Amazon Set 2
Amazon Set 3
Amazon Set 4

Again, if you can’t buy them locally, you can get them from Amazon in the UK:

Amazon UK Set 1
Amazon UK Set 2
(Set 2 has measuring cups as well as spoons).

Tip: to get an accurate measurement, scoop up a heaped measure, then scrape off the excess using the straight edge of a table knife until you have a level spoonful.

Measuring Jugs

Glass is best, although food-safe plastic will also be OK to use. You should be able to get these in a good general store.

If you’re following the external borax in 1% hydrogen peroxide regimen, you need one that will hold at least one litre (just slightly less than 34 US fluid ounces) with some room left over for the borax and to avoid spillage while carrying and pouring into your spray bottle (use a funnel and pour slowly for this).

Whatever regimen you’re using, you need one with both US fluid ounces and European millilitre markings. If you can’t find one, you can buy from the suppliers listed in the link below.

3% Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide

Avoid the 35% strength if you’re accident-prone because it’s tricky to handle and carelessness can cause potentially serious accidents. Unless you know exactly what you’re doing, go for the 3% - that’s pretty safe and easy to handle.

Home Water Distiller

Removes all chemicals (including fluoride and chlorine) and inorganic minerals from tap water, leaving just pure water. Works out much cheaper than buying bottles constantly. I use a Megahome and can recommend it highly.

US/North America:

JD Harris
(Exceptionally good customer service).

Normally used for joint health and other ailments. Here it’s used for its high sulphur content.

Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil

All regions:
For hygiene reasons, it’s best to buy two jars at a time - one for ingestion, and one for topical use. This should be readily available in any decent supermarket. If not, you should find it in Asian or health food stores. Online, it can be found here:
Nutiva Coconut Oil

Ozonated Oils

US/North America:
I’ve been unable to find suppliers for ozonated coconut oil or hemp seed oil in the US, but you can get olive oil.
